The Great Divide
The Great Divide, or often just `The Divide`, is an important event that is believed to have occured at the start of recorded history. It states that at the end of the ancient Eladrin civilization, some great and calamitous event split the Eladrin race into a number of diverse subraces that now make up the peoples of Tirn Aill. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and Orcs are all understood to be descendants of the Eladrin that fell to the Great Divide. Yet, while it is a widespread understanding, the Great Divide has little recorded proof of its occurrence.
Despite its historical significance, the event is usually discussed more as an idealogical principal than an actual period in time. Humans like to think that their acceptance of the Great Divide is what caused the emancipation of the Dwarves as they began to be viewed as equals and brothers. While Orcs accepted the Great Divide as a calling to return to Tirn Aill from their desert homes in the Great Expanse. The Dwarves have embraced it as a chance to claim status and power, while most Elves just see it as a form of imperial propaganda.
